I'm sure you've already heard about this, but the men's and women's rowing teams are being cut from varsity status by the Athletic Department. This means that the teams will be moving to a club model starting next school year (2010-2011) and that pretty soon the Athletic Department won't be providing any funding for the team, which means that the cost of equipment maintenance, uniforms, travel, lodging, and regatta entry fees will fall on the students who are participating.
In an effort to make that financial burden a little lighter for student-athletes, we're raising money for the team with a 5-day ergathon in the North Atrium of the College Center. The ergathon started today at noon and will continue until noon on Monday. We have rowers working out on indoor rowing machines continuously, and we're selling delicious baked goods. We'll also be selling spandex starting Thursday (tomorrow), which is probably the most popular item we've ever sold at a fundraiser.
We've also got shirts from races we've competed at in the last few years, news articles on the team, medals and trophies our team has won, and a display of quotes about what rowing means to us and why we continue to wake up at ungodly hours of the morning and go out into the cold to get an exhausting full-body workout five or six days a week.
So, come out and support Vassar Rowing. Any donation you can make is greatly appreciated, and even just adding your name to a list of people who support us is great.

I need another book of matches. I used this one up, watching the flame flame. I used this one, watching the burn burn, the end end.
Now I have no proof save memory, and three things the bitter smell, the bitter silence the beautiful curls of smoke.

Last night I watched just one episode of The IT Crowd (the football one, my probably favorite). Then today at work I was supposed to be disabling text boxes based on checkboxes the user can click, and every time I read or said or thought the word "disabled" all I could hear was Roy saying "I'm disabled". *facepalm*
I think that if I finish NaNo successfully, I will buy all three seasons of The IT Crowd on DVD. Yay, self-bribery! :p

I went to see The Men Who Stare At Goats tonight! It was enjoyable. Not spectacular cinema, but it had its moments. & I guess I had forgotten how goddamn attractive Ewan McGregor is, SERIOUSLY. (Although the nearly-there American accent does throw you a bit sometimes.)
( And, unsurprisingly-- ) It's a bit like the trailer for whatever Mel Gibson movie they showed us beforehand where he is yelling angrily at a man "Do you want to be on the cross?! Or do you want to be pounding in the nails?!" :/

Arsenal did well this morning, although our victory was buoyed, admittedly, by two own goals from the Wolves.
I went home last night to see my sister in the high school drama club's fall production. As a result, I fell behind on my NaNo wordcount, and now I'm pretty sure that my momentum is gone and this is all going to fall apart. :(
Also, I know that it is sacrilege, but exactly how much sacrilege is it to hate BSG? Because I think I might.
I didn't watch it when it aired because it was a space soap opera and the fangirls seemed to be creaming themselves over Mary McDonnell--who I will definitely agree is lovely, but I seem to recall some kind of "OMG YOU TOUCHED MY LIFE HERE IS A TEDDY BEAR" scrapbook, etc. Still, we're watching it at work now and besides grinning like a moron every time I see Gaeta (aka AJ aka "...YOU!") I basically want to punch everybody. And I don't know if this is just season 1 or not, but seriously, if they talk about Doing God's Will one more time I will stab a baby, no lie.
Plus I know Just Enough about the show since I expected to never watch it & so I read flist spoilers (and one ill-advised wikipedia article about Chief Tyrol after we started watching it at work) so there probably aren't really any surprises left. It just all makes me so angry. :/

I love Thursday night teevee, seriously. Community was adorable, per usual, and I have found myself enjoying 30 Rock much more this season than I did last season. ( Like tonight: )
Also, if you have some way to watch tonight's Daily Show, for the love of god please do so. You will not regret it. ♥

| Selling Haier fridge - 4.6 cu ft & brand new |
[04 Nov 2009|11:09pm] |
I'm selling a Haier 4.52 cu ft fridge purchased from BJs in September. Used for 2 months and practically brand new. Only stored oranges, grapefruits, water bottles, and almond butter. It's "collecting dust" in my dorm room and I'd like to give it a new home. It has adjustable shelves and a freezer compartment. BTW I live in Noyes.
Purchased for $150 after tax and selling for $120 or negotiable.
This is the exact fridge: http://shop.bjs.com/Haier-4-6-Cu--Ft--Refrigerator-Front-Page_stcVVproductId43679004VVcatId428349VVviewprod.htm

Only difference from the picture attached is that the top shelf has a freezer compartment and the color is black/metallic, not white.
Please comment on this entry if interested or e-mail waxtulip@yahoo.com
Thanks :)

I should probably start marking blue existential crises on my calendar like most girls mark their menstrual cycles. I think it's about that regular, although they happen more often. I seem to get one every one-and-a-half to two weeks on average. It's no big deal, and they're most definitely necessary because sometimes they make me kind of creative, but it still feels really weird every time I get all moody and contemplative and anxious and slightly on-edge. Also I get all think-y. More than normal?
I think also that this is tied to coffee, meetings with Lee Edelman, and not wanting to do schoolwork.

Why do I live on the wrong continent? And/or why won't Arsenal play a mid-week game that isn't right in the middle of the afternoon where I live? BUT ON THE PLUS SIDE, 4-1 over those sons of bitches AZ Alkmaar! And every time I look at match photos, I remember that I have managed to pick a "fandom" where THE MOST BOY-TOUCHING OCCURS. Did you just score a goal? HUGS WILL ENSUE! ;)

I have an advising date with Lee tomorrow!
Also, I found out that Tufts will pay me for getting an internship with WBUR this summer if they feel like I'm worth it. It's called a 25 Grant or something.
Check it OUUUTTT
I also might do an "Winternship" this January. The application deadline is tomorrow. More on this if anything comes out of it. Cross your fingers for me.
I've got a lot of stuff to do, but it's all fun stuff.

While I am totally all for Leverage/White Collar crossovers, it is seriously weird to me to think that such a crossover creates a universe where a criminal played by Mark Sheppard can be pursued by an insurance fraud investigator played by Mark Sheppard. XD
Also, it was pointed out to me that the White Collar pilot is available for free on iTunes, so I downloaded it and now I just keep...stealing back and watching bits of it instead of doing anything useful. COME ON, SELF. (Although, if you haven't seen it yet, you should totally check it out!)
PS. HIMYM was really good tonight! It's had a few off weeks recently, but this week was back on track. ♥
